Woohoo!! Yep, we’re going on holiday for two weeks on Thursday! Be the first holiday for me in months (no, two nights in Rotorua does not count) and I can’t wait. We’re going to Queenstown (see piccie) in the South Island for a conference that Dr Jax is attending. Queenstown, for those in the northern hemisphere, is kind of like NZ’s answer to Switzerland on a much, MUCH, smaller scale. πŸ™‚ Remember those mountains in Lord of the Rings? Those are the Remarkables (again, see piccie). Remember Rohan? That’s the kind of country where we’ll be going. Anyway, not sure of the wisdom of driving over a thousand ks with two small kids but hey, if you don’t try you’ll never know right?

Of course the other advantage of going away is that it’s the perfect NTAI distraction. It’s been ten weeks since I sent in my sub and the twelve week mark will pass while I’m away. I’m thinking I won’t hear, considering the busy-ness of the London office. Sigh. Oh well, I am taking the laptop with me just in case (does that make me sad?). Can’t do without my email and can’t do without my lovely blog friends. πŸ™‚ And perhaps I’ll even have time to do some writing. There’s lots of hot alpha skiers, snowboarders, climbers and general extreme kind of guys down there… Hmmmm….

Modern Heat set in Queenstown anyone?

  1. Thanks Sri! My oglings of alpha men may be limited due to the presence of small children sadly, but I can ogle mountains to my heart’s content. πŸ˜‰

  2. I LOVE Queenstown! My aunty and uncle have a holiday house there (yepn – I KNOW) and I’ve been there three times and am dying to return. Last time I went I was trying to think of a storyline that I could set there. I reckon Queenstown is the PERFECT setting for a MH!!!

In fact I have some hilarious stories from one holiday there but they are probably too bizarre for fiction!! No one would believe them πŸ™‚

  3. Thanks, Lacey. I will. πŸ™‚

Ah, Rach, you can’t say that and then NOT tell us the stories!! C’mon…
Oh and you reckon re setting a MH there? I wondered if it wasn’t ‘urban’ enough.

  4. Oh Jackie – sounds fab. I too would be taking the laptop (in fact will be doing the same when i head to the US) Nothing like a feesh new setting to provide some inspiration!

  5. Ooh, very jealous. I loved Queenstown when my (now) husband and I visited it on our travels around your beautiful country. It was one of many highlights for me. I found the scenery in NZ almost ethereal. Maybe it’s the light? I can see why Peter Jackson wanted to set LOTR there, it’s like no-where else on earth.

Hope you have a fantastic time. I too now travel everywhere with my laptop, just in case inspiration should strike. It’s 12 weeks for me now and counting…

  6. Janette – the US? Oooh, aren’t you lucky? And I was enthusing over Queenstown!

Kristy – I didn’t realise you’ve been here! Hope you had a great time if you did. Yes, the scenery is pretty spectacular. I live here and yet whenever I travel, I’m always inspired by our landscapes. It is pretty special. Still, I’d LOVE to have a trip further afield…
Twelve weeks huh? In an ideal world you should be getting a response by now. Keep me posted!

  7. Hi Jackie. Have a great holiday – it will be good to re-charge the batteries!

btw what does NTAI mean? I haven’t sussed out this acronym yet! Put me out of my misery pleaseeeee Take care. Caroline x

  8. Have a lovely holiday!

Rohan [sigh] I might just have to go and watch the movies again for the 275th time. (Oops I can’t – our recent burglars took the DVD player!)

Anyway, please take lots of pics and post a few here.

  9. Lorraine – yep two kids in the car does mean lots of distraction, and not of the good kind!

Caroline – it’s just one of my stupid acronyms! NTAI=Not Thinking About It. This can be applied to daily life whenever you are required to Not Think About It. Like one’s submissions… πŸ˜‰

I will Romy. Hopefully the weather will cooperate and I can get some good ones. Bummer about the burglars!

  10. Have a fantastic time. Wish we could join you but my bad knee put paid to our skiing holiday. I have road-tripped with small children. Just make sure you pack your sense of humour and an ipod to drown out ‘are we there yet’. Enjoy

  11. Oh no, I was wondering if you were going to make it over the ditch or not. A bad knee?? Sorry to hear that, Felicity! Yep, invested in a small portable DVD player to calm the savage sounds of stir-crazy kiddies. Will probably work for all of five seconds. πŸ™‚
