All Dressed Up

Okay, well, the partial is done. Its got its party dress on, hair has been styled, the makeup done. Now all it’s waiting for is to be asked out. Don’t want it to be a wallflower…

In other romantic news, the darling Dr Jax took me for a suprise wedding anniversary weekend to Waiheke Island, one of the islands in Auckland’s gulf harbour. A kid free weekend and it was bliss!
Not to mention giving me a few ideas for my next wip. Yes, a writer’s imagination is always working.

This wip is the infamous Kate and Alex story and I finally, finally think I’ve got the conflict and plot exactly as they should be (at least I think so). Waiheke is home to lots of hippy-type people as well as very rich-type people. So I can see the Modern Heat potential. Lots of beautiful vineyards, lots of five star resorts, lots of tie-dye and dream catchers. The perfect place for the child of hippy parents to take on a rich and unscrupulous property developer…

Now I’ve got a handle on the old action/reaction and the KISS principle with regard to conflict, I think I could make this one work. Now what I really need to concentrate on is NOT adding additional strands to my conflict but that’s a whole other story…

  1. LOL on the hippies and yuppies. Sounds like where I live, only it’s mountainous here, and you have to throw in some rednecks. So we’ve got redneck conservatives, hippies and richies. I would be part of the rednecks I suppose, cuz I’m not rich and I don’t have any tie dye, but there are antlers in my house…

Wow. Anyway. +20 pts to Dr. Jax for the weekend away!!!

And yay on the polished partial…she’s all ready to get taken advantage of by some unscrupulous tycoon! Good for her!!

  2. Oooh, I was going to set part of my comp story on a hippy commune in Wales – but was advised (quite rightly) that it wasn’t MH. Wish I’d happend upon your island before you…

Glad you and Dr Jax had a good anniversay weekend.

  3. Maisey – I’m hoping she’ll be taken advantage of by a ridiculously pushy, arrogant billionaire editor.. πŸ™‚ I’m sure there are rednecks on Waiheke – well disguised naturally.

Kerrin – one can only hope!

Suzanne – no, don’t think the commune is MH. So my heroine won’t be on a commune. But her parents will be children of the 60s…

And we did have a lovely time.

  4. Lacey – I’m hoping you will. But if it’s not published, you’ll hear me whine about it endlessly here. πŸ™‚

Maisey – Lol!!The Pregnant Partial’s Playboy Pirate (Editor?). Why can’t editor begin with P?? πŸ™‚

  5. Congrats Jackie on the partial. I’ve snuck my head out of the cave for a bit of a break and to see what’s happening out in the ‘real’ world. Thanks for your support! Lucky you on the anniversary. Kid free sounds wonderful!! At least for a little while.

  6. Jackie – sorry, my first comment didn’t come out right – it’s Wales that’s not MH (too cold, too damp, too few hot billionaires), your commune soudns fab.

  7. Suzanne – Wales not MH enough? Well…maybe I guess. I’m not sure Waiheke is either but it IS in Auckland which definitely is!

Thanks Romy. It was happy. Until we had to come home. πŸ™

  8. Scotland wasn’t thought to be very MH either… Waiheke, however, sounds heavenly and right up the MH street! Hope you have fun bashing Alex and Kate into submission πŸ˜‰

  9. Thanks Janette! It was divine.

Lorraine – still waiting for that fairy godmother…

Judy – yes, Mr Richmond is being a bit stand-offish at the moment. Apparently he doesn’t dance. πŸ™‚

    Thanks Sri!

Yep, Lucy, I aim to have fun with K&A. And it’s true, there is a lot more sun at Waiheke than Scotland. No haggis either. πŸ˜‰

  10. Wilds of Oregon? Hmmm, maybe not Presents but sounds exotic to me. πŸ˜‰

Margie – Lol! Idea is currently still spinning around but could be subject to change…

  11. OMG, what a small world, Jax. Two very good friends of ours emigrated to Waiheke Island from England. They absolutely fell in love with the place and fall between rich-type and hippy type, so they’re in absolute heaven. It looks like a fabulous place. Glad it got your creative juices flowing πŸ™‚

  12. Waiheke sounds ideal for MH.

Kudos to you for sticking with your ms and perfecting it. I tend to archive the folder and get on with something else… This year alone there are seven mss waiting in limbo.

LOL re the not adding additional strands to your conflict. I just finished my comp entry and belatedly perused my synopsis. Lo and behold, my heroes had taken over and decided the plot elements I’d intended including weren’t needed…so half of what I’d outlined doesn’t appear. Maybe I can use it for something else…

    All the best with Kate/Alex : – )

  13. Veronica – that’s a lot of stories! Well done you. I have let it alone now. Am concentrating on the new story, well the new version of the old story. πŸ™‚
Ah, doncha love it when your characters take their story into their own hands? πŸ˜‰

  14. Wow the picture is fab, Jackie, looks like the clouds are sitting on top of the ocean. No wonder you feel inspired πŸ™‚

Hope your dressed up lady gets the marriage she deserves!!
