It’s official, I seem to have lost my mojo. Have spent the past two weeks staring at my screen, writing a paragraph then deleting it, writing another paragraph then deleting it, rinse, repeat. I guess it’s better to actually write something than nothing at all but when you actually have nothing to show for it? Usually when I’m stuck on a scene I can’t get past, I jump ahead and write the next scene on but I can’t seem to do even that.
Anyway, this lack of doing anything is making me even grumpier than I am normally, which does make the family want to jettison my study into deep space with me inside it (hey, I wouldn’t mind. At least I wouldn’t have any distractions!).
So, what does everyone else do when they can’t seem to write? More chocolate? More martinis? More chocolate martinis??
Waiting to hear back about your revisions and waiting for your chapter to appear will be playing havoc with you. I think it’s understandable that you can’t concentrate.
My method for coping with writer’s block? Well, blogging, reading other people’s blogs, commenting on other people’s blogs, wasting time sending bits and pieces into magazines, and yes, the chocolate…the result of which is that my ms sits forlornly waiting for another draft…aaargh.
Yep, it’s the waiting that’s the culprit, Suzanne. I should have got used to it but now but seemingly not.
Certainly, thank God for people’s blog I say! And definitely chocolate. Speaking of which…
I’m having the same problem, Jackie. I know it’s probably the point in the book (ch 5) and stress and all the normal things that make it hard to write, but not writing still really stinks…
The cure, I think, is just battling through it. Eventually, you’ll get to the other side. Praying that’s true this time…it always has been in the past. 🙂
Chocolate, I’m thinking, is a must. Am still waiting too, and I thought I might attempt a short story, just to try something different. Probably impossible though…
Maybe reading?
I find I’ll start reading something and then put it down because inspiration has struck…
